The Past
Guru Nanak Dev University Alumni Association (GNDUAA) was founded on May 5, 1997 by four 1992-96 batchmates Sameer Bandhu, Hitesh Anand, Satbir Minhas and Daman Padam. All but Satbir came to the Unites States as students. What started as a way to keep in touch amongst the four friends turned out to become an idea to establish an alumni association.
And so was it, as soon as GNDUAA's site was set up on the internet, the hits started to increase. With the number of members increasing the founder members felt the need to stop using the free resources on the web and to pool some money and buy a domain name and a mailing list. The starting objectives of GNDUAA were
to make Guru Nanak Dev University visible in the era of dot commonization;
to create an atmosphere of cordiality, helpfulness and greater interaction amongst GNDU alumnus in the world and make members identify themselves with GNDU ;
to help fresh GNDU pass-outs find jobs, higher education opportunities in India, US and around the world ;
to help our alma mater- Guru Nanak Dev University in its pursuit towards better educational facilities and result-oriented, practical research.
The addition of Raj Hundal, Harjinder Singh and Anshuman Sharma to the team was great. It was an ideal inter-mingling of the new and the old, the students outlook and the faculty mind, the enthusiasm and the vision. Ever since these guys joined the team, we have had a renewed energy.

The Present
GNDUAA recently approved its constitution is very close to the registering itself as a non-profit organization in the United States.
GNDUAA believes in a democratic process of decision-making. The constitution was written by the team and it was made public for the comments of all the members. Some members made very constructive suggestions. Along with the constitution approval an online poll was set up on the GNDUAA webpage to ascertain what people think about charging membership fees from people. The members overwhelmingly voted in favor of putting a nominal membership fees for whosoever wishes to join the alumni association. The money generated would go towards scholarships for GNDU students, and various other things listed on the Online poll page
With time we have refined and broadened our goals. For more information check out the GNDUAA draft constitution.
Presently GNDUAA has raised US $600, collected from the team members to run the day to day affairs of the association. The number of member on the GNDUAA Mailing List at the moment is 136.

The Future
It sure it bright ! :-)
Once we are registered, we will try and work out a way to sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar , so that GNDUAA becomes an official GNDU Alumni Association.
Soon after that all who want to be members of the alumni association will have to pay a nominal fees, so that the affairs of the alumni association may be conducted.
After the ball gets rolling the present GNDUAA team will let democracy prevail, all X-GNDU'ites will elect their representatives for the alumni association.
